Late Night Music Part 7 Finals Week Edition.........Really Bad One Hit Wonders

As most of you are using this time to begin studying for those ever elusive A's with your final exams, I figured it would be a good time to not only add another post, but to remind everyone how funny some of the most popular songs (at the time) are now that we realize they really suck. Also receiving votes in this category were Vanilla Ice, Biz Markie, anyone in the Jackson family not named Janet or Michael, Bobby McFerrin, Simon Poindexter, Eiffel 65, and Paris Hilton.....just kidding.

New Radicals- "You Get What You Give". I love these guys' attack on "bad music" in their late 90's "hit". I remember seeing this video being played constantly as I was getting ready for school. Besides pissing off Beck, Hanson, Marilyn Manson among other members of the community, Gregg Alexander said he was "fans" of everyone he named. He broke up the Radicals later that year because he "didn't want to be in a one hit wonder band". Too late.

Fine Young Cannibals- "She Drives Me Crazy". You can argue that these Brits had more than one hit. Personally, I think these guys suck so bad that you can't even consider them hits. This is another one of those groups you have to scratch your head and wonder how they EVER got "famous". Seriously, they CANT sing, they are completely cheesy, and their lead singer looks like a cross between a Martian and a warrior from the Meng Dynasty.

Aha- "Take On Me". I like this Norwegian Pop sensation. I mean these guys were just a Scandinavian version of Duran Duran and you KNOW you always sing along on "in a day or twooooooooooooooooooo". I had to put this video on here for a couple of reasons though. First, seriously- what are they doing? Second, is it just me, but does it seem like you're watching an episode of "Speed Racer" on crack?

Baha Men- "Who Let The Dogs Out?". These Bahamians did a style of music called in the Bahamas "junkaroo". You got that right. For once and for all, just so you'll stop asking, I LET THE DOGS OUT!

Bonecrusher- "I Ain't Neva Scared". I love how this song can thank sports teams for making it famous. After this song, Bonecrusher has had more face time on "Celebrity Fit Club" than he had as a real rapper. I think MTV just put his video on alot because he stole their cupcakes or something. Good lord this guy is HUGE.

Rick Dees and His Cast of Idiots- "Disco Duck". For you older bunch, you know you not only knew the song, but you liked it. Rick Dees is a GREAT radio host on his weekly countdown show, but how in the name of Zeus's butthole can you call this video entertaining? WOW.

4 PM- "Sukiyaki". These guys suck, but I seriously feel bad. These guys are NOT bad singers, and they seem to be pretty sharp articulate guys. However, note to all of you young aspiring musicians out there. NEVER, EVER let your first single be a cover song- BIG MISTAKE.

Digable Planets- "Rebirth of Slick (I'm cool like dat)". Ok, to all my "earthy" friends out there, don't get your panties in a bunch. You know I respect the neo soul movement of the late 90's to it's current state. But these crazy New Yorkers which CANNOT rap, I'm sorry, they CAN'T, (not to mention have some STUPID nicknames) seem to have the whole "you are artsy and open minded" if you listen to them thing going on. How in the WORLD these idiots ever made it even semi big in mainstream is RIDICULOUS. These guys suck- this song was one of the worst in the history of music to ever chart.

The Heights- "How Do You Talk To An Angel". Jamie Walters....wow. This song has the dubious distinction of being the song that knocked Boyz II Men's hit "End of the Road" out of #1 after it's record run in 1992. Might be the only TV song EVER to stay on the charts longer than the actual show, which Fox pulled I believe after just a few episodes. Seriously, we know Jamie Walters is singing, but HOW FAKE are the rest of the castmembers? To think Aaron Spelling was IMPRESSED with this and put Walters on "90210" two years later is still baffling.

Marc Nelson- "15 Minutes". Maybe my favorite ever, not because he's good, but because he's an absolute idiot. Nelson was an original member of Boyz II Men in Phliadelphia, but left shortly before they recorded the first album to pursue a solo career which he thought would be more beneficial for him. Good move. After leaving an up and coming Az Yet, he released the appropriately named "15 minutes" in 1999, which is probably the worst song ever with the use of sexual lyrics. All coming from a guy who holds himself up as some great Christian (Scientologist). Marc Nelson is a classic example of a guy who had it all laid out for a road to stardom, and the only person who got in his way was him.

Bonus Video- Marc Nelson did flirt with greatness in his duet with Beyonce' from the 1999 movie "The Best Man", "After All Is Said and Done". I have often stated that this movie is the BEST African-American produced movie EVER (right above "Love and Basketball"), and the context in which the song was used in the movie was fantastic. Enjoy the video featuring the song, and pictures of Beyonce- not him- they kept beautiful people only in the video.

If my band sucked that bad, I'd hide my face too.
For Pete's sake, I LET THE DOGS OUT!
You know you listened to it........
