Late Night Music Part 6............They Said WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

We all know the songs......we sing what we THINK are the words, but they aren't correct. Some of the most famous songs ever we have NO idea what they are actually saying. I found these famous "WTF" songs that are catchy tunes, but seriously, do you know the words? Also receiving votes in this category are "Start Me Up" by The Rolling Stones, "Looking Out My Backdoor" by CCR, anything by Joe Cocker, and anything off of Yoko Ono and John Lennon's "concept" albums

"Blinded by the Light"- Manfred Mann's Earth Band. This 1970's British group had a pretty catchy hit with this song. Honestly, I think these guys were pretty talented musicians, just had a lead singer that looked like Gallagher. However, what in the WORLD is he saying on the chorus? It sounds like "Blinded by the light, locked up like a douche another runner in the night". Good luck figuring it out. Until then, enjoy the video here from Midnight Special in 1975.

"In the House of Stone and Light"- Martin Page. I remember on our trip to the UK in 1995 hearing this song 100000000 times as it was a UNREAL huge hit in Europe at the time. It's a strange song, but was big nonetheless. However, fast forward to about 2:51-2:53 I SWEAR TO GOD it sounds like he's saying "lop a poop in my eye". Maybe he did and we don't know it- he IS British.

"Yellow Ledbetter"- Pearl Jam. Ok, you can pick just about any Pearl Jam song. Eddie Vedder has GOT to be one of the least intelligible lead singers in music history. This karaoke favorite I think is so popular because people want to show that can be more understood plastered drunk than Eddie Vedder was "sober". I seriously have to watch the screen when this song is sung, because I'm clueless. However, and I'm not making this up, I have seen at LEAST 3-4 versions of lyrics on this song- watch the video and figure it out for yourself.

"Rock the Casbah"- The Clash. Ok, I'm not picking on our British friends across the Atlantic, but this punk smash hit from the 1980's really confuses me. Are they saying "Charlene's on lightning, rock the cash bar?". I really like this song though, and this video is entertaining nonetheless. Good multiple watch just to figure out the words. Enjoy.

"Like A Bird"- Nelly Furtado. So my love is "red"? you know my love is "blue"?. Either I can't understand her, or she has some kind of color coded love connection with her significant other that know one else seems to know about. Watch and judge for yourself.

"Smooth Criminal"- Michael Jackson. Ok, like I've said NUMEROUS times, I am a HUGE MJ/J5 fan. However, like I stated before in my account of "Man in the Mirror", most of the songs off of "Bad" follow the same M.O.- not only do they seemingly make no sense (a whole nother entry), but you can't understand anything but the chorus. First of all, what is he talking about? Second, WHAT DID HE SAY? Lastly, who in the HECK is "Eddie"?.

"Superman"- Soulja Boy. All of you know I hate to bad mouth my fellow Mississippians, which Soulja Boy is. However, the more I hear crap like this, I wonder what it takes to seriously be a famous musician in this country now. Not only is this song beyond stupid, I feel like Soulja Boy is speaking some secret language no one else knows except him and his imaginary friend.

"We Didn't Start the Fire"- Billy Joel. I'm a HUGE Billy Joel fan. Seriously, the guy is one of the most technically gifted musicians/piano players to ever be in music of any area, and I say that with no reservations. However, even though I love the concept of this song, I have to read the lyrics of it to follow along. First of all, most people are clueless when it comes to the majority of events that he talks about in this song. I have to follow along on wikipedia myself and I was a history major! Second, the true lyrics, according to the lyric sheet, don't sound anything like what he is singing. Is he so smart he confused everyone including himself? Watch the video and see if you can figure it out.

"Louie Louie"- Kingsmen. I always think of the famous scene in "Mr. Holland's Opus" when I hear this song. Not only can this guy NOT SING, you have to have a sign language and multilingual UN ambassador interpreter to know what in the world this guy is saying or even talking about. Another example of how it really doesn't take much talent to have a hit record in America. Point made on the video.

"With You"- Jessica Simpson. Whatever.

Making Mississippians everywhere proud since 2003.
Do you ALWAYS look stoned, or are you just that big of a group of idiots?
It's ok kids, don't be scared, that is just what it looks like when Gallagher and Maurice Gibb are cloned together!
