Analyzing the Holdouts

Well, according to ESPN.com last night, the contract talks between the Saints and Reggie Bush are supposed to "heat up" today. However, the contract talks between the Saints and Reggie Bush could very well hinge on the contract talks between the Titans and Vince Young. According to ESPN.com's senior NFL editor Bob Glauber, Vince Young, who believes he should have been the #1 pick (and honestly, with the Texans situation, he might have a point) and wants more than 2006 #1 pick Mario Williams. The contract asking price, reportedly, is 6 years, $60 million, which would make Vince Young the richest rookie NFL history. However, this decision to pursue this contract has led Reggie Bush to say "well I was drafted ahead of Vince, and I should have been the #1 pick as well, so why should he get more money?". This puts the Saints in one hell of a situation. For the Titans, they have a marginal, but still effective veteran at quarterback in Billy Volek. Nashville is not a city being rebuilt, and the high profile games of the Colts, Patriots, Cowboys, and the return of Steve McNair against the Ravens have led to the Titans selling out all of their home season tickets for their entire run in Nashville. So, worst case scenario is Vince Young is traded to another team for an unbelievable amount of talented players. However, the signing of Reggie Bush is much more important to New Orleans. While Deuce McAllister is already in place, Bush and Deuce are completely different players- anyone realizes this. Then, with the city of New Orleans being rebuilt after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the life that Reggie Bush breathed into the city was unparalleled in the history of professional sports. Also, the Saints sold 56,000 season tickets, which is up from 40,000 their last year in New Orleans. So, with the lesser population being in New Orleans, one would have to guess that if Reggie Bush isn't in place to play this season, the Saints could be looking at close to or over 20,000 of those season tickets being returned for refunds. Thus, in point, ending the Saints run in New Orleans and wasting alot of NFL money to make the Superdome ready for the 2006 season. Saints fans, I can't tell you how important getting this deal worked out is. I don't care if Tom Benson has to have one less car or one less suit, REGGIE BUSH NEEDS TO GET HIS MONEY- THE FUTURE OF THE SAINTS DEPEND ON IT. Let's just hope that the Tennessee Titans don't play a bigger role in this than they have already.
