Late Night Music Bowl Season Edition Part 120........"Christian Bands"

You can believe whatever religion you want. You can even believe as much or as little about Christianity as you choose to. This list is not about that. This list has nothing to do with trying to push my personal religious beliefs. This list is simply about the very talented Christian bands out there that sometimes fly under the radar for the simple reason that they are Christian bands. Contrary to popular belief, Christian bands don't "suck", as most of the time you wouldn't even know it was a Christian band unless someone told you. I've always respected the super talented artists in this genre, as most of them dedicate their lives to a cause and a ministry rather than focusing on fame.
In order to be considered in this category, the band had to be self proclaimed as a "Christian" band, on a Christian label at the time of the release or performed at Christian music festivals. U2 and Creed were disqualified for this reason. Petra and Stryker were left off the list just because they are so dang cheesy. No solo artists were considered for this category. Also receiving votes in this category were. "Sincerely" by Nevertheless, "Aware" by Salvador, "Come Undone" by Jackson Waters, and "Superfly" by the OC Supertones.
"Death Bed" - Relient K. In 2007, Relient K was gaining popularity from their album "Mmhmm", which included an appearance on "The Tonight Show". Their much anticipated follow up "Five Score and Seven Years Ago" released in 2007, debuted at #6 on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart. Almost immediately, the band released "Must Have Done Something Right" which peaked at #45 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, the most intriguing song on the album is the nearly 11 minute epic which chronicles a man's first hand perception of his life as he lay dying on his deathbed. This song, while never released as a single, is a common song to close Relient K and has been a fan favorite ever since. The song also features a closing by Switchfoot lead singer Jon Foreman.

"All Around Me"- Flyleaf. In 2007, Flyleaf re-released their debut self titled album in order to reinvigorate the buzz behind a great album. This single fueled the fire as it hit #40 on the Billboard Hot 100, and hit #1 on the Christian charts. This video's push by Fuse and Yahoo! music helped push the album to over 1 million copies sold, making it one of the best selling Christian albums of all time. Lacey Sturm is an unreal lead singer- she's so passionate and freaking OWNS this song!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN0FFK8JSYE
"The Unwinding Cable Car"- Anberlin. In 2007, Florida's Anberlin released their critically acclaimed "Cities", which peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart. Included was this single, which was the band's first ever slow song, and in a great case of music irony, this very inspiring song was included on the soundtrack for the 2008 horror film "House". Like most "off topic" slow songs by rock bands, this song was actually two songs that came together into one. Ever since I've known that I feel like I'm listening to a mashup. This video has always been one of my favorite on youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ei1-vWL-t0
"Everything"- Lifehouse. In 2002, Lifehouse took America by storm with their debut album "No Name Face", which peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart and "Hanging By A Moment" shot all the way #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 that summer, making Lifehouse one of the top acts in the world. However, the song that closes out the album, was Jason Wade's most personal and intimate song is this one here, which has been featured in churches and youth center all over the world with its famous skit. The popularity of the song with fans led to it being included on the soundtrack of the television series "Smallville". Unbelievable live performance here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnB4ewmfdXo
"Innocent"- Stellar Kart. Stellar Kart made everyone think they were an 80's band with this video to accompany their fan favorite single from their hit album "Expect The Impossible" in 2008. This hilarious video shows how funny Stellar Kart really is as a band. Is it just me, or does the manager in this video look like Mike McQueary from Penn State? These guys remind me so much of Blink 182 it's not even funny. Still can't help but love Stellar Kart's sound. "Expect The Impossible" peaked at #66 on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxMrGDd1cos
"Beautiful Love"- The Afters. This theme song to MTV's "8th and Ocean" climbed to #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006, and remained one of the most downloaded songs on iTunes during the show's initial run on MTV. Not bad for a band's debut single from their debut album "I Wish We All Could Win".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX9h4PPx41I
"Say This Sooner"- The Almost. In 2007, Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie released the debut album for his "side project" The Almost, "Southern Weather". The album was very similar to Dave Grohl's production of the Foo Fighters' debut self titled album, as Gillespie played virtually all instruments and performed all vocals on the album. The band was not added until the The Almost began touring in 2007 and the video was filmed. This video received significant play on Fuse and MySpace. The album debuted at #39 on the Billboard Hot 200 Album Charts, and would spawn a follow up album in 2009 "Monster Monster". Gillespie has yet to return to Underoath......hmmmm I wonder why.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8x_1xSEsL4
"New Day"- Robbie Seay Band. What a fantastic song! This has to be my favorite song on this list! This song from Houston-based worship band Robbie Seay Band was included on their second album "Give Yourself Away". Robbie Seay Band has primarily found their following in churches and have received little airplay/mainstream promotion, but I still think they are one of the most talented bands out there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owsap4Zs7bg
"Pierced"- Audio Adrenaline. Man! What another amazing song! This song from Audio Adrenaline's 2003 album "Worldwide" should have been a single......I'm just saying. Audio Adrenaline never quite matched their success of the mid-to-late 90's, but this album did crack the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart, and hit #4 on the Christian charts. Still one of the best bands I ever saw live.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M79PZunrNkg
"Zero"- Hawk Nelson. In 2006, Hawk Nelson was one of the biggest Christian bands around partially due to their video for "The One Thing I Have Left" hitting the #1 spot on VH1's Top 20 Video Countdown. This single from their album "Smile, It's The End Of The World". This song about suicide recovery is one of the band's more well known songs, and helped build them momentum for their widely popular follow up album "Hawk Nelson Is My Friend" released in 2008.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFO7T2VPwdA
"The Ocean" - Mae. Man, what a fantastic album! Mae's debut album "Destination: Beautiful" has got to be one of my all time favorite albums. The album never got the play that "The Everglow" and "Singularity" got, but it's grassroots to the very core and is an unbelievably put together album in every sense of the word. I was sick when Mae announced their disbanding, as they will always be, in my opinion, one of the best Christian bands of all time. Unbelievable song here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvW9ctkWd88
"Monster" - Skillet. Skillet has got to be the only Christian band I've ever heard of charting in Japan, which is exactly what this song did in 2009. After the worldwide success of their debut album "Comatose", their follow up album "Awake" DEBUTED at #2 on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums when it was released in 2009. The song has been widely used by WWE since it release, being featured on NBC's presentation of Wrestlemania XXV, and also used as the theme song for 2010's PPV "Hell In A Cell".......irony?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mjlM_RnsVE
"Paradigm" - All Together Separate. Man another awesome song! All Together Separate always kept a cult following until their disbanding in 2003. I have to say that I have actually heard this song performed in a church service. Oh yeah, lead singer Dex Alexander looks like Trevor Penick from O-Town.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hC92PjTDg8
"Faith My Eyes"- Caedmon's Call. This was the hardest band to pick a song from. Caedmon's Call has flown under the radar for so many years. This song from their critically acclaimed album "40 Acres" is just simply amazing. Just listen to it. Caedmon's Call would see even bigger success in 2007 when their song "10,000 Angels" was featured on an episode of "Grey's Anatomy".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOm6b-8_1Nk
"Homesick" - MercyMe. Wow what a great live performance here from Mercy Me's live DVD of their tour to accompany their 2004 album "Undone". This song peaked at #9 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart and was written about the band's heartache over losing 9 family members and friends in a period of just a few short weeks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvhrPMJe8LE
"Courageous" - Casting Crowns. This theme song to the Sherwood Pictures feature film of the same name from earlier this year is yet another great Casting Crowns song. This song from their most recent album "Come To The Well" peaked at #23 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. Casting Crowns has one of the better stories of any band, as they began as a youth group worship band in Daytona Beach to become one of the biggest acts in Christian music history.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkM-gDcmJeM
"Love Liberty Disco" - Newsboys. What a hilarious video! This Australian band always found a way to be entertaining. After being one of the bigger acts in the genre in mid 90's, peaking with 1996's "Take Me To Your Leader", this 1999 disco concept album failed to gain the momentum of previous albums by Newsboys. Despite that, we were still given an unbelievably hilarious video to accompany the title track from that album. Newsboys has gone through so many lineup changes in recent years, they have completely reinvented themselves.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylyM-_vHKEA
"Consume Me" - dc Talk. Speaking of the devil! Former dc Talk member Michael Tait is now the lead singer of Newsboys. This song and unbelievably creative video would turn out to be the last for dc Talk. After their 1998 album "Supernatural" DEBUTED at #4 on the Billboard Hot 200 Charts, this video and single was released. However, dc Talk would disband in 2000. In 1995, dc Talk released "Jesus Freak", one of the best selling Christian albums of all time, which went double platinum and spawned the hit "Between You and Me" which went to #29 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Supernatural" did well in its own right going platinum on the heels of "Jesus Freak".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVlod4SdLD8
"By Your Side"- Tenth Avenue North. This single from Tenth Avenue North's debut album "Over And Underneath". This song written from the perspective of Jesus Christ, won the GMA Dove Award for Song of the Year in 2008. The first time I heard this song I thought it was Switchfoot.........speaking of Switchfoot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHgNCj4DU_M
"Dare You To Move"- Switchfoot. I LOVE THIS SONG! This single from Switchfoot's 2003 album "The Beautiful Letdown" peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100. This widely popular song was featured on "One Tree Hill" and this video reached #2 on the VH1's Top 20 countdown. Jon Foreman is a very underrated front man. The dang guy just looks like he's 12 years old. This video is 100% serious, but watching it just now, all I could think about was "dang they were smart to be in the shade".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOTcr9wKC-o
"Crazy Times"- Jars Of Clay. After taking the world by storm with their double platinum debut self titled album, Jars Of Clay, mainly on the heels of their worldwide hit "Flood" which peaked at #39 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was featured in the movie "Hard Rain" as well as heavy video rotation on MTV, followed it up with 1997's "Much Afraid". This album also went platinum itself. This was the lead single from the album, and it picked right up where Jars Of Clay left off as far as sound and mood of the song. This song went to #38 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks Chart. Pretty cool video here as well, just makes me think I'm watching Smashing Pumpkins or something- why did everyone in the 90's do the same thing?

Late Night Music Part 119......"I Just Made You Say Underwear"

Like I said, it's really amazing where inspiration comes from. This one just popped in my head for no good reason at all.

In order to receive votes in this category, the SONG TITLE had to have some form of the word "UNDER" in it. Also receiving votes in this category were "Under The Milky Way" by The Church, "Going Under" by Evanescence, and "Over and Under It" by Five Finger Death Punch . NOT RECEIVING VOTES was "Out From Under" by Britney Spears- duh.

"Underneath"- Hanson. Hanson makes my points here. Alot of bubble gum kid groups are mis-managed at young age because their surrounding adults want them to focus on "kid" music. While some of them write their own songs, their creativity is still young, and it is still very curtailed by record companies, parents, and radio stations. I've said 10000 times that if you give Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers 4-5 years, you're gonna see some of the best bands in the world because there is no denying talent. Hanson was VERY similar when they came out in 1997 with "Middle Of Nowhere". Their sound was very bubble gum, Taylor and Zac had not reached puberty yet, and their songs were solid, but simple. Fast forward several years to 2004, and this title track from their album of the same name has got to be one of my favorite songs from that year. The making of this album was closely chronicled in the documentary "Strong Enough To Break". I always thought that this song and the album never got enough credit just because so many people weren't used to the new sound Hanson had and still has. This song right here makes me so emotional.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og8How4IYZ8

*SIDE NOTE* I really forgot to include Hanson's song from the same album in the last post- here it is "Strong Enough To Break" by Hanson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhIvcjF74mg

"Under You"- Better Than Ezra. Man! BTE's 1999 album "How Does Your Garden Grow?" was their least successful album, but is right up there with "Before The Robots" as their best album. This song from the album has long been debated as the true meaning. Some say it's about lost love, some say it's about witnessing a traumatic loss, and others just say it's about an unreal orgasm. Nonetheless, this is still an unreal song. "How Does Your Garden Grow" proved to be BTE's last major studio album, as they were dropped by Elektra after its release. Despite this, I still think Better Than Ezra is more of an indie type of band anyway, and remain one of the most popular in the gulf south. I've seen these guys live more than any other band with 4 live performances.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7kUS8M52uw

"Under The Bridge"- Red Hot Chili Peppers. Fresh off the success of their music video and single "Give It Away" from their 1991 album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", the Red Hot Chili Peppers released this 1992 single based on Anthony Kiedis's recovery from drugs and how it made him feel lonely and distant from his "former life and friends". This song peaked #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and really catapulted the Chili Peppers into the mainstream in addition to their already strong cult following. This accompanying video received heavy rotation on MTV (when it still had music) and was nominated for 8 VMAs taking home 2.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLvohMXgcBo

"Driven Under"- Seether. BONUS POINTS FOR THE REVERSE VIDEO! Why can't American bands ever make videos this cool? I love reverse shot videos- coolest thing ever! This single from South Africa's favorite grunge band's debut album "Disclaimer" reached #13 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks. Is it just me, or do I feel like I'm watching the movie "Inception" when I watch this video? Doesn't it seem like those people looking at him are the "subconscious projections" that Leonardo DiCaprio talked about?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkJzemljk8s

"Under Pressure"- Queen and David Bowie. It's not the same! Just ask Vanilla Ice- this bass line and his bass line from "Ice Ice Baby" are NOT the same........yeah, and I'm Chinese. This song from Queen's 1982 album "Hot Space" reached #1 on the British Singles Chart, and was actually David Bowie's first ever collaboration as an artist. Ironically, the song was written in a jam session that started when David Bowie was displeased with the song "Cool Cat", which he was supposed to sing background vocals for and was the reason he was in the studio that day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a01QQZyl-_I

"Down Under"- Men At Work. Yes! One of my favorite songs ever! This hilarious video by one of the most eccentric groups ever is one of the best songs of all time. This widely popular song from their major label debut album "Business As Usual" reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and cemented Men At Work as one of the most famous Australian bands of all time, and was included in Men At Work's performance at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. According to songwriter and lead singer Colin Hay, the song was in a way a protest of the selling and "over-development" of the country of Australia. I would imagine that this is also the only music video I've ever seen that not only MENTIONS marijuana use, but also depicts it. Wow.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhnn6yb4Mmc

"Under The Cover of Darkness"- The Strokes. Just when you thought the Strokes had disappeared, they broke their 5 year hiatus this year with the release of their newest album "Angles", which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart with this song serving as the lead single. The Strokes are so freaking cool man. They just seem so effortless in their music, and I've never seen a band look as nonchalant as they do in this video. My only question is Julian Casablancas always trying to look like Joey Ramone or is that something new?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l09H-3zzgA

"Under The Same Sun"- The Scorpions. The Scorpions were fresh off their success of their hit single "Wind of Change" and the album and "Face The Heat", when this single was released which was also included on the soundtrack to the Steven Seagal film "On Deadly Ground". Maybe that's why it never had an impact..........

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwyXnft6ZVk

"Under Control"- Parachute. I FREAKING LOVE THIS SONG! This second single by Parachute was released on their debut album "Losing Sleep". I can't see how a guy can't be inspired by this song. Will Anderson, also looks strangely like 30 Seconds to Mars front man Jared Leto. Parachute reminds me alot of Sherwood and alot of Josh Kelly for some reason- the music just seems to have that blend. I'd really like to Parachute get bigger- they are a super talented band.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HiRnS4k2Vw

"Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?"- Shania Twain. Good grief Shania is hot. This song doesn't make sense though- no guy would ever be creeping around on her- even if he was gay- I'm just saying. This song was actually Shania's first charting country hit and was the lead single for her 1995 album "The Woman In Me".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZRA-Dwv86E

"I've Got You Under My Skin"- Frank Sinatra and Bono. Ummmmmmmm.......really? Bono is an awesome lead singer and a very diverse singer- but this one even caught ME off guard. Frank Sinatra is one of the best entertainers to ever walk the face of the earth, but this here is a very poorly done duet in my opinion. This duet was taken from Sinatra's 1993 album "Duets", which featured duet versions of all of Sinatra's old hits. Why do singers do this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=365GNeCPsOE

"Underneath Your Clothes"- Shakira. Shakira set herself up with this one. Is she really gonna have this song and then not even talk about what's "underneath" her clothes? Oh yeah, really lame beginning to the video here. Don't you hate when multi-lingual people do that?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwBwKcQ1k84

BONUS VIDEOS- "Go"- Hanson. From their 2007 album "The Walk". Also their first single every sung by Zac.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPAeOlTvcmo

"Pinch Me"- Barenaked Ladies- The song that inspired the title.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3NE6UuaLiY

"Ice Ice Baby"- Vanilla Ice. You be the judge.

Late Night Music College Football Bowl Season Edition Part 118.........."No Lifeguard On Duty- Swim At Your Own Risk!"

It's the middle of winter, I'm thinking of a beach, and for some reason thought it would be cool to be out on the ocean right now. Tonight's list talks about those songs where artists thought the same thing.

In order to receive votes in this category, the SONG TITLE had to have the word OCEAN or SEA in the title. We'll worry about rivers later- that's a whole other entry. Also receiving votes in this category were "An Olive Grove Facing The Sea" by Snow Patrol, "Children Of The Sea" by Black Sabbath, and "The Iron Sea" by Keane.

"You're An Ocean"- Fastball. In 2000, Fastball picked up right where they left off after 1998's platinum album "All The Pain Money Can Buy" with their much anticipated follow up album "The Harsh Light Of Day", with this lead off single and hilarious video as well. I love how all of Fastball's song could wind up being a TV theme song to pretty much any kind of show, except maybe "20/20". For some reason, I watch this video and think "man this song should be the theme to "The Drew Carey Show". While this song never made it to the theme song of any show, it did have an appearance on an episode of "Charmed" in 2000. While this song got airplay due to the video, it made hardly a ripple on the charts, as it peaked at #8 on the Billboard Alternative Charts, and Fastball has been kinda stuck there ever since.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTAfx-Jx8tI

"Ocean Wide"- The Afters. Let me say this first. The Afters are one of my favorite bands and are quite possibly the best Christian band out there right now. Their album "Never Going Back to OK" is nothing short of a masterpiece and if you don't have it, get it on iTunes. That being said, this is quite possibly the largest gap of song awesomeness and video suckage I have ever seen in my life. This incredible song hit #23 on the Billboard Christian Charts, but gave us probably the dumbest video I've ever seen on this blog. Sometimes you're left scratching your head. Rest assured though, The Afters are one of the best bands you don't know about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1nNQ6uVTmY

"Ocean Avenue"- Yellowcard. After having the song "Way Away" included on the soundtrack for "Madden NFL 2004" and releasing the critically acclaimed album "Ocean Avenue" Yellowcard released this title track in 2004 from what is still their best album ever. This totally awesome video which takes a page from the Bill Murray movie "Groundhog Day" brought the band even more mainstream attention, hitting the coveted #1 spot on MTV's "Total Request Live". "Ocean Avenue" is one of my favorite albums. I'd love to see Yellowcard come out with another album this comprehensive. I know I say it all the time, but it's just super cool how Yellowcard can find a violin part in every song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9fLbfzCqWw

"The Ocean"- Mae. In 2005, Norfolk, Virginia Christian band Mae released their critically acclaimed sophomore album "The Everglow", which peaked #51 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart, but hit #1 on the Christian Album Charts. Included on this album was this great song written by lead singer Dave Elkins. Mae would go only to record one more album, 2007's "Singularity", before breaking up in 2009. I'm still sick that I missed a chance to see them live in Nashville. Mae will always be one of my favorite bands.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvW9ctkWd88

"Into The Ocean"- Blue October. This song from Blue October's 2005 album "Foiled" peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100, but fueled by this cool video, it climbed to #1 on VH1's "V Spot" countdown. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like lead singer Justin Furstenfeld was separated from Adam Levine at birth, but then again that's probably just me. This song was written about Furstenfeld's own depression issues and is an amazingly written song from a lyrical standpoint.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZES3nJQYJok

"Swimming In Your Ocean"- Crash Test Dummies. This follow up single to Crash Test Dummies worldwide top 10 hit "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" climbed to #6 on the Canadian Singles Chart. This song stays with the surreal theme of their 1993 album "God Shuffled His Feet", which is that you have no idea what's going on. This video of an apparent old lady lounge singing band does nothing but confuse me more. Brad Roberts will forever have the most peculiar lead singer voice of any lead singer out there, but he gives hope to all the baritones and basses who think they can't be a lead singer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBvr5hlXALg

"Ocean Floor"- Audio Adrenaline. Man what a great band- I saw these guys live in 2000 in Jackson. Without a doubt one of the greatest Christian bands of all time. This single from their 2001 was critically acclaimed and received airplay from mainstream music stations, which helped the album climb to #169 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums. This awesome video really doesn't do this song justice. Audio Adrenaline always had great lyrics, but this emotional offering is one of their best songs ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y281553XUAA

"By The Sea"- Kat Gang. What a hidden gem by New York Jazz singer Kat Gang. This song was a part of her 2008 album "Copycats and Wannabees". For more info on Kat Gang, check out her website www.katgang.net.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytnJ4GxL71o

"Sea Of Sorrow"- Alice In Chains. Beavis and Butt-head would be proud.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiE9VEkmOSc

"All At Sea"- Jamie Cullum. This song was included on Jamie Cullum's third album "Twentysomething", and was his second single ever released. While the song only charted in the Netherlands, it got his sound out to an international audience, in particular his native UK, where he is one of the hottest up and coming artists. I like Jamie Cullum's voice, I'd really like to see this guy get bigger in the USA. He kinda reminds me of Gavin DeGraw.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLOglnjC6iY

"To The Sea"- Jack Johnson. This title track from Jack Johnson's latest album is featured in this great live performance from the Santa Barabara Bowl. I'm shocked to see JJ wearing shoes and playing an electric guitar- I didn't think he had it in him. Jack Johnson is one of those guys I'd love to see live just to say I did. This guy is an absolutely amazing performer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJbPdz3Peow

BONUS VIDEOS- "Beautiful Love"- The Afters. The theme song to MTV's "8th and Ocean". Much better video. And, you might know this song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX9h4PPx41I

"Octupus's Garden"- The Beatles. I almost counted it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-BdGchS0yk

"I'm On A Boat"- The Lonely Island featuring T Pain. I'm on a boat!

Late Night Music Part 117......."Give Me A Break. Break Me Off A Piece Of That Kit Kat Bar"

For some reason the thought of Christmas Break came to mind the other day. Also, who doesn't wanna take a break sometimes? Wow I'm being really stupid right now- am I seriously that random?

In order to receive votes in this category, the SONG TITLE had to have the word" break" somewhere in it.Also receiving votes in this category were "Smoke Break" by Curren$y, "I Want To Break Free" by Queen, and "Alone I Break" by Korn.

"Breakdown"- Jack Johnson. This unbelievable track from Jack Johnson's 2005 album "In Between Dreams" is one of my favorite songs of all time. This song was written JJ on a train ride in France as he passed people in the city wondering about their lives, but knowing he couldn't stop. Always thought it was an interesting idea and a very interesting concept of wondering about the lives of people you simply glance at. The single saw just a little success on the charts, as it peaked at #73 on the British Singles Chart, and only appeared on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks, peaking at #40. Despite this, the song remains a coffee house favorite, and is still one of Jack Johnson's more famous songs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4O7ufx9D_s

"Break"- Three Days Grace. Canadian rockers Three Days Grace released this single about breaking away from bad influences on their album "Life Starts Now" in 2009, and after reaching #1 on the on the Billboard Rock Chart, it peaked at #73 on the Billboard Hot 100 before actually being featured during Super Bowl 44 (also known as Saints day). I've always liked Three Days Grace just because I can actually understand their songs, and I know it sounds dumb, but they really look the part of their music, so I guess makes them more believable. I love this video just because I feel like I'm watching a parody of Michael and Janet Jackson's "Scream".

"Break Of Dawn"- Eric Saade. I seem to find more and more Scandinavians for this list. Our newest one is Swedish pop icon Eric Saade, who found solo fame with this release from his hit debut album "Masquerade" after 2 years in the Swedish boy band Whats Up!. This song reached #45 in Sweden, and would be the prelude to his platinum release album "Saade Vol. 1", which come out just a few months later. Really good video of the song here- this guy is really talented. Bonus points for the fact that he basically previewed his next video as this video shows scenes of his actual crew shooting scenes for his next video which came out "Masquerade". I smell a bonus video.

"Breaking The Habit"- Linkin Park. I really wish Linkin Park would decide what they wanna do. They always either wanna sing for a little while and then scream at me. Can you guys please pick a genre? I know they have some good songs, but that is really annoying. This song about drug addiction was featured on their 2004 hit album "Meteora" and hit #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. Maybe Chester Bennington would stop looking like he was having a heart attack if he would stop screaming in the microphone- settle down man. I've never been much of an anime guy, but this is a pretty cool video. For some reason, this format was really good in the mid 2000's- just look at Eminem's "Mosh".

"Un-Break My Heart"- Toni Braxton. Wow.........Tyson Beckford almost completely ruins this video just by being in it. Seriously ladies? The guy can't act and isn't even believable in a music video. On the other hand, Toni Braxton is so smoking hot in this video! This song from her 1996 album "Secrets" was not only played in the ground, it stayed at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for an astounding 11 weeks. But were we really gonna complain about an overdose of Toni Braxton? Call me old fashioned, but I think Toni Braxton has gotten even sexier with age- talk about aging gracefully!

"Break"- Five Times August. This Texas artist who's been the walking soundtrack for MTV is without a doubt one of the most successful unsigned artists of all time, with this songs not only being featured on several TV shows, but also his heavy marketing done by Wal-Mart across the country being one of their featured artists. He remains unsigned despite his success just to prove that an unsigned artist can be successful in the industry. I really love this song- he sorta reminds me of a Five For Fighting/Ben Folds/and umm........Drake Bell.

"The Break Up Song"- Wale. I don't get how rappers release singles sometimes. This latest single from rapper Wale is not featured on his newest album "Ambition", but still makes for a pretty entertaining video. Gotta admit too, that Wale is the most convincing looking rappers as far as "playing the part" in his video. I could so see him being that way.

"Break Your Heart"- Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris. In 2009, British hip hop superstar Taio Cruz led off his much anticipated sophomore album "Rokkstar" with this awesome track featuring Ludacris. This song went to #1 in 4 countries including the UK and USA. Taio Cruz has some pretty catchy tunes, but I seriously feel like I'm watching a Notorious B.I.G. video here- something about boats in the water. On a sidenote, Ludacris has some seriously huge lips.

"Breakdown"- Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. I freaking LOVE this song! I wish Tom Petty would have played this one we he played the Super Bowl. (I smell a bonus video). The song was Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers first ever single from their debut self titled album all the way back in 1976, peaking at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100. I hate that most people didn't get into Tom Petty until the late 80's and early 90's because he had some great songs in the 70's including this one.

"Breakdown"- Mariah Carey featuring Krayzie Bone and Wish Bone. I am seriously on the fence on this one. I seriously always hated Bone Thugs N' Harmony. I still think they are one of the most overrated groups ever just because of their gimmick sound. However, in 1998 Mariah Carey was finding herself and released her newest identity crisis album "Butterfly", much to the irk of Columbia Records, who signed her as a pop artist who had all of a sudden become a hip hop starlet. Columbia was also none to happy about this song being released as a single. Despite it's mediocre performance on the charts peaking at a mere #53, the song remained one of Mariah Carey's favorites, and even included it on her "The Collection Vol. 1" album. Oh, but believe me, I didn't forget that she is smoking hot.

"The Take Over, The Break's Over"- Fall Out Boy. I can't get over their fat ginger lead singer Patrick Stump. I feel like Cartman should be jumping out of the sky right about now just to crush him. This single from their 2007 album "Infinity On High" is a super catchy tune, and this grayscale video actually won a People's Choice Award for best video in 2007 despite this song NOT charting in the United States. Patrick Stump is always sweaty......that's gross.

"Break Down Here"- Julie Roberts. Not surprisingly, I've actually heard this song karaoke about 300 times more than I've heard this original version. By the way, I'd love for Julie Roberts to break down here- what amazing eyes. This sleeper country hit which was the debut single for Julie Roberts off of her 2004 debut self titled album, peaked at #81 on the Billboard Hot 100, but remains a drunken karaoke favorite for rednecks everywhere.

"Break Free"- Committed. *scratches head curiously*

"Break Up To Make Up"- Stylistics. I'm gonna go ahead and admit that this is my all time favorite song to break into "random background vocals" on. Just something about the Stylistics makes you wanna join the group. In 1973, they released this song from their album "Round 2" and climbed to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Don't worry, I didn't make up a dance to this song too......I only do that for Jackson Five songs.

"Bend and Break"- Keane. Keane closed out its 2005 masterpiece debut album "Hopes and Fears" with this final single from the album in 2005. I love Keane, but I really wish they'd stop trying to copy Coldplay. Can their keyboard do anything else to copy Chris Martin? That being said, Tom Chaplin is a very underrated lead singer. He can take over a song without overpowering it and has a very very distinct voice. Pretty good live performance here- that guy commands a stage.

"Bend And Not Break"- Dashboard Confessional. Chris Carraba is beast. This track from their 2003 album "A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, and A Scar" remains a crowd favorite- as it can be seen in this video. Unfortunately, I can't really find a good studio version of this song. Until I find one- have fun watching Chris Carraba.

"Unbreakable"- Fireflight. Great track by this Christian band from Florida. This title track from their second album reached #1 on the Christian Rock Charts in 2007. According to lead singer Dawn Michele, the song is based on the story of Jesus and the adulterous woman, and her new attitude on life after Jesus saved her from the crowd ready to stone her. The song has been featured on many commercials for the NBC Network for promos for new shows. I love Dawn Michele's voice. Fireflight is a perfect mix of sound between Paramore and Flyleaf- both also with female lead singers.

"Unbreakable"- Alicia Keys. I seriously have no idea what you're saying right now..........Alicia Keys looks amazing in this video. Despite being one of Alicia Keys's favorite songs, the song was only her second song to not crack the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #34. The song was only released as a single off of her "Unplugged" album just due to her love of the song. Originally recorded to be included on her "Diary Of Alicia Keys" album, it didn't make the cut, and was only at the insistence of her that the song was finally released as a single. Bonus points for being able to mention Ike and Tina Turner in a song.

"Breakin' Me"- Johnny Lang. Great song, but explain to me why Johnny Lang always looks like a teenager.

BONUS VIDEOS- "Masquerade"- Eric Saade. I think we already saw this one.

"Run"- Leona Lewis. Live from "The X Factor". No reason for this one- just stuck in my head.
